Soy & Coconut Wax

Soy Wax

Soy wax is made from soybean oil, the process doesn't require any other ingredients, which makes the soy wax 100% vegetable. The oils are extracted from the beans and then hydrogenated which converts the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process is necessary to change the melting point of the oil so that it is solid at room temperature, allowing a soy wax product to be made that melts. The leftover bean husks are still highly nutritious and so are used for animal feed. Creating a process where nothing is wasted

Soy wax has an off-white, almost opaque appearance, which is why all of our wax products are white or off-white. If you see any coloured soy wax products then you can be sure that the colors have been added using colourings. Typically, soy products have a lower melting temperature than other products and this can be an issue in hot weather. You'll find that most soy wax products come in glasses or tins that prevents any unwanted melting issues.

Coconut Wax

Coconut wax is a colorless and odorless wax made from cold-pressed coconut meat or coconut oil mixed with soy wax. It is considered as one of the best and healthiest types of wax to make candles because it doesn't produce as much soot as the other types of wax.

Between the two, coconut is the softer wax. This makes it easier to work with allowing for a stronger overall blend of fragrance. This softness also gives coconut wax a cleaner burn, coming from the fewer ingredients list. On the other hand, soy wax is just a little stiffer which gives it many similar properties. The Blend of soy and coconut wax helps with glass adhesion which in turn helps with candle wet spots.

Frosting

Frosting is when a white crystalline layer forms on the surface of natural waxes such as soy. This is a natural effect of soy wax and only occurs throughout vegetable waxes. Frosting takes place when the natural wax used to make a candle tries to recrystallise and return to its natural state, although it can sometimes look unatractive on the top of the candle that has been left to cool, it doesn't affect the performance of the candle in any way and also means your wax is 100% natural.
